Week 13.8 - Recommended Reading (10)

DNH603 Recommended Reading - Emerging Trend The next reading to be is  Berg’s CEO on the experience of connected devices & avoiding the creep factor  by Katie Fehrenbacher (September, 2013) ( https://gigaom.com/2013/09/02/bergs-ceo-on-the-experience-of-connected-devices-avoiding-the-creep-factor/ ). Notes from Webpage; product making and design consultancy combining into one - similar use with 3D printers with how you can easily buy your own printer etc Berg has created a product ecosystem with the Berg Cloud connected devices - using social media and a physical sound to replicate sounds...the flock is a metaphor...changes how you would interact when you get a notification...would you find it more annoying or become more exciting about receiving a notification like that?  I guess in regards to my A3 design and how I went for a subtle notification, I feel like it was the right choice especially in regards to the context which is more delicate. Though the alarm on the 4th is a bit

Week 13.7 - A3 Presentation

It was such a relief to have this presentation over with. I enjoyed walking around and seeing what everyone else did, their designs and their videos. The belwo videos is a quick video of my groups presentation and our products.

Week 13.6 - Code is working!

It has been such a rush trying to get this code together and I still haven't finished. Since the beam breakers just came this Monday, I have been running around like a headless chicken trying to get this right and I think I finally got it. The video below shows a demo of my code and bow the sensors work together, how they go off when the connection is broken etc. I'm so happy that this part is over.

Week 13.5 - A3 Poster

Image
The poster is finally complete and printed. My teammate Roozbeh was the one who designed the beautiful layout with fonts etc. He has such a clean style that it's a privledge to work with him and be able to use it :) While my hero graphics aren't completely the same as my team members, which you will see tomorrow (or morning) it still follows that simple design with minimal colour etc. The outlining and shadowing makes everything just stand out that little more but also blend in with the surrouding writing etc. The poster also shows a final version of my flow chart. I have left things slightly more simple this time round due to the amount of interactions needed incomparison to A1 isn't as much due to the nature of the design.

Week 13.4 - A3 Products

Image
I have it regretted now, even though its done. So instead of simply buying a watch strap from the shops for about $8, I decided to make mine out of laser print. Where I cut 30 small panels, sanded the final ones, painted them on one side, and then sewed them together.  Now that I've done them, I feel like it was a waste of time but I think the orange that I will use for the working prototype looks pretty cool.....Don't think it was worth it though...it didn't really turn out how I thought but it also did...if that makes sense. The coverslip in comparison was beautiful to make. I used a sewing machine and sewed in drawstrings to make a slip that can be adjusted. It's made from cotton as I want and with the colours I was looking at; white and grey. They aren't the perfect tone but they're good to represent. The below images are some process images of how I made my products.

Week 13.3 - A3 Video

Image
The A3 Video from start to finish surrounds the scenario of a user being out in public, studying and how when she's busy in notifies her of the status of her bag through notifications of visual displays, light and sound in case of emergency. The below link is my A3 video for ostomy monitoring. It shows all the stages except for the 4/4 full stage where an emeregency call screen will pop up.

Week 13.2 - A3 Finalising Code

Image
Yikes! lets begin with that. It has been one hell of a ride with this code. For most of the duration of A3 I have been trying to code infrared leds and transmitters...NOT BEAM BREAKERS. It was only until last week Thursday during our tech workshops that I was finally introduced to them. Thank God for that, I was about to pull my hair-that you can't seen under my hijab-out. The Beam breakers are amazing, whoever designed them is honestly my hero. While it has taken me a couple hours to get the code, (and its still not perfect 100%) they have taken my code to not working to everything is working as it should with the expection of the display screen that is clearing at the moment. But the detection is just amazin and how accurate it is and how each stage correlates with each other. It's late and I'm happy.  The video below demonstrates the working interactions, with a couple things missing (such as buttons) for how my design will monitor the bag and inform the user through li
