Notes from Webpage;

  • Integrating sensors into clothing for functional performance - to improve quality of life
  • sensors can be used to "accurately measure knee motion in, e.g., osteoarthritic patients."
  • Technology is restricitve in its size and shape, its 'bulky and obtrusive' - while they have good use, they aren't convenient as a wearable
  • sensors, technology aren't being utilised due to the restriction...people are reluctant to use them, espeically those its designed for...due to lack of convenience
  •  The article presents the development process of ' a patient centered, clinically driven design for an attachable clothing sensor (ACS) system that can be used to assess knee motion.'
  • This brings numerous options, solutions that can be used in the health field but there is still a lack of trust and knowledge with combining technology with usable/needed products

This article is interesting as it shows how careful integrating sensors in the design process must be...how much thought and consideration must be in the design for users to even consider trying it, let alone using a product on a regurlar basis.

Food for thought, is what I'm designing something my users will use?

Again, I ask myself, is this product needed? My answer to this today, is to design it and see...I'm technically still in the design/prototype stage and while my research shows a need for it, especially to prevent injuries, going back to my focus area, I feel after the design freeze feedback from my user is needed.
